SEEKING THE LOST
The Great Commission Lesson 13
Introduction:
1. This lesson could well have been used as the first in the series. However, we have kept it until the last in hope that its impact will go with us far into the future.
2. these are the last words which Jesus spoke before He ascended to the Father. This must have made them especially meaningful to the disciples who heard them. It should also make them meaningful to us.
3. Read Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16; and Luke 24:46-47
I. GO
1. Who is to take the initiative in contacts between the saved and the lost?
In Christ’s plan, does the Christian act or react?
2. As it has been in recent years, if most of the people in the world are to hear the gospel from us, what will they have to do? What will most of those in our city have to do?
3. How much going having you personally done in the last year in any effort to save lost people?
II. “INTO ALL THE WORLD” (Every Creature, All Nations)
1. How have we limited this commission in practice?
2. Do preachers have any more responsibility for the lost in other lands than do other Christians?
3. Obviously, not everyone can go everywhere. But how can we have the fruit of going accredited to our account (See Phil. 4:14-17)
4. Besides financial support what must we do if the gospel is to go into all the world?
5. Should we wait until all in our own city, state, or nation have heard before going to nations beyond? Does Acts 16:6-10 help answer this question? Explain.
III. PREACH THE GOSPEL
1. From what you know of the traditional “missionary station” in other countries, what activities are common?
Are these activities wrong in themselves? Do you think an evangelist would likely do many of these things as a Christian? Are they part of his work in fulfilling the “Great Commission”?
2. What are some things other than the gospel which a man might be tempted to preach in a foreign land?
3. What are some expenses which an evangelist would incur in going to some distant city to preach the gospel?
If we were independently wealthy, would it be reasonable for him to bear these expenses personally? If he could not bear these expenses, how should they be met?
IV. WHAT ARE WE DOING?
1. What are you doing personally to obey these instructions of Jesus?
2. As a congregation what are we doing? Do you know? Below, list the men we support elsewhere, where they are working and how much we sent to them.
MEN SUPPORTED WHERE THEY PREACH AMOUNT WE SUPPORT
